General:
Perennial herb from a branched stem-base; stems several, 10-25 cm tall, glaucous and glabrous throughout or with a few hairs toward base.
Leaves:
Basal leaves in a prominent rosette, lanceolate, entire or few-toothed, 1.5-3 cm long, 0.3-7 mm wide, gradually narrowed to a long, slender stalk, glaucous and glabrous; stem leaves unstalked, ear-like at the bases, 2-3 cm long, 5-8 mm wide, entire or few-toothed, glabrous and glaucous.
Flowers:
Racemes few-flowered, symmetric; petals 6-10 mm long, purple; sepals not bulging on one side at the base.
Fruits:
Siliques, erect, somewhat spreading from the axis of the inflorescence, 3-6 cm long, 2-3 mm wide; seeds about 2 mm long, with wings less than 0.5 mm long.
Notes:
Arabis depauperata is tentatively placed here. It has been variously treated as a variety of A. lemmonii, as a synonym of A. microphylla and A. lyallii (Hitchcock et al. 1964, Rollins 1993), or as a separate species (Mulligan 1996).
